Surge Billiards, Inc: SomerCor SBA 504 Feature

Surge Coffee Bar & Billiards was founded in 2017 by husband and wife, Wahib Merchant and Kareeshma Ali. The goal was to create a social hub and place of community in Albany Park. They followed up with a second location in Logan Square in 2020.

The 6200 square foot facility in Albany Park features 14 professional pool tables. In the morning it operates as a coffee shop, and then switches to a full cocktail and food menu in the evening.

The couple partnered with SomerCor SVP, Eric Bacon, to refinance two existing SBA 7(a) loans with the SBA 504 refinance program. Both of these loans were used to purchase commercial real estate and property improvements. By refinancing with the SBA 504 program, it combined their monthly mortgage payments into one loan with a long-term fixed rate. Plus, the monthly mortgage payment owed decreased by over 20%.

“We worked with SomerCor to refi our two 7(a) loans into one 504 loan,” said Merchant. “The process was smooth and efficient due to the professionalism of the staff at SomerCor.  With this refi they helped our small business be set up for success in the future, for which we are very thankful! “
