Started in 2009, R&J Trucking and Recycling provides plastic waste recycling services for commercial clients. R&J transports the plastic waste to their state-of-the-art recycling facility where it is safely processed and then sold to polymer professionals around the world.
R&J is a minority woman-owned company that has grown into a family business with employees spanning two generations. A key part of the company mission is protecting the environment. Company President, Balbina Alvear, and her team take pride in serving their client base with custom solutions that safely repurpose plastic refuse. Every month an average of 1.5 million pounds of waste is repurposed by R&J – avoiding the landfill and instead being used for the manufacturing of entirely new items.
SBA 504 Building Purchase
R&J worked with SomerCor on an SBA 504 loan to purchase a 197,000 square foot building to serve as both a warehouse and office space. Their previous building was 100,000 square feet. In addition to securing additional space for their company to create dedicated restrooms and a breakroom for employees, the purchase provided them control over parking – a key issue with the heavy transportation component of the business. Even more critical to the long-term growth of the business, the monthly mortgage on their new location is 30% lower than what they paid in rent – leading to more than $75,000 in annual savings.
