  • College degree required – finance, accounting or other business-related field.
  • Either underwriting experience with bank or other financial institution or relevant academic coursework.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to SBA loan programs.
  • Strong written and analytical skills needed to quickly assess the creditworthiness of potential borrowers and highlight the key credit issues related to a particular transaction including the ability to mitigate credit weaknesses.
  • Attention to detail to ensure prospective borrowers meet SBA eligibility criteria.
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethic to flourish in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work “outside the box” and assist in other areas of the organization.

Job Duties:

  • Intake, organize and assess a credit application file for completeness and eligibility criteria for the SBA loan program.
  • Underwriting, including the spreading and analysis of historic and pro forma financial statements with the ultimate product a concise yet comprehensive credit memorandum. Credit analysis revolves around a distinct focus on cash flow and ultimate repayment ability of the applicant business.  Further discussion in the credit memo includes narrative on ownership and management experience, support provided from secondary sources of repayment (collateral and/or guarantees), review of the economic climate around a given industry and additional focus around requirements specific to SBA loan programs.
  • Willingness to work “outside the box” and assist other departments as needed.
