When there are more applications received in a SBIF district application acceptance period than available funds can accommodate, the City of Chicago holds a lottery to determine the order in which applications may become eligible for funds. Once the available funding has been allocated through this lottery, the remaining applications drawn in the lottery shall be placed on a waiting list according to the order in which they were drawn. If an application is on the waiting list, then it shall have priority for funding relative to its position on the waiting list for a period of twenty-four (24) months from the date of the lottery before any new applications shall be accepted for the SBIF district.

After each lottery, results will be posted by the following business day. All eligible applicants are drawn in the lottery. Depending on where you are selected in the lottery and how much funding there is available, you may be placed on a waiting list.
Note: Lotteries are open to the public and occur at City Hall (121 N. LaSalle St.).
